I will never forget Mrs. Dominguez. She was my 3rd grade teacher at Yucca Elementary. She was the sweetest teacher ever. I still have a picture of me and her from St. Mary’s Church. She attended my first communion. May she Rest In Peace.

I loved her spirit. She always had my back. When I looked at her, I thought, "I want to be just like that." There is no way to describe the loss I feel at her death, nor the honor I feel having been her daughter. She was my best friend, my inspiration, my hero. I don't know how to mourn a piece of myself. I DO know how to remember her. I will remember her... in the faces of children eager to learn, in the voices of caring teachers striving to make a difference, in the successes of her grandchildren, and in strong, rebellious spirits of those dedicated to justice and equality. Her light brightened the lives of countless people in her 89 years. I am one of the lucky ones who got to call her Mom. You made me who I am, Mom. I love you. Always.

I have found when a beautiful person passes away I am left with the feeling of I should have done more. Spending more time , calling more often, sending more Holiday and Birthday Cards.. the list goes on. When Grandma Manuela passed, Auntie Loli and my mom, Sophia, gave me grandma Manuela’s Catholic books. ( they said I was the last Catholic in the fam 🤷🏻‍♀️) One if the books was One Step Enough by Leo Trese. As a glanced through it while writing this I stopped at chapter 27 titled - For What Shall We Pray? It tells the story of Jesus asking the blind man “What would you have me do for you?” And the answer is, you guessed it, sight. The next paragraph goes on to say “What would we ask for if Jesus asked us the same question?” The book suggest we ask for the grace of final perseverance, the grace of a happy death. I know my Auntie Loli was granted this beautiful blessing. 🌹 I thank her for being my second mom and helping me to look on the bright side of life. ♥️ She was a person who always gave more. I Love you Auntie Loli. I will miss you always. 🥀

I had the honor to work with Dolores at Yucca Elementary when I first started teaching inPalmdale. She had a quiet strength about her and she loved her students. My oldest daughter was in her third grade class, I remember how kind Dolores was and how she defended and protected my daughter against a slander incident with another teacher. My daughter went through major anxiety because of the other teacher, but Dolores went to bat for my daughter and talked to the principal about my daughter’s character and real grades. I’ll never forget that. Another time was when I had a personal loss and she understood and told everyone to leave me alone and to give me space. She was always understanding and kind to me and now my wish is that she is enjoying herself pain free in heaven. We will continue to miss her but her legacy of excellence in teaching will carry on in her colleagues and students that she impacted.

I was five years old when Aunt Dolores married my Uncle Roman and became a special person in my life. Aunt Dolores was always sweet to me, and a great influence on my life. I remember her taking care of me on vacations to California missions that I was fortunate to be included, and combing my hair along side her own daughters. I remember that she made me a beautiful cake and piñata on my tenth birthday which was very special. Aunt Dolores was my sponsor for my church conformation. Aunt Dolores gave us our wedding shower in her home, she was just there for every important part of my life. To me Aunt Dolores was the model wife and mother and she was a loving Aunt who I will love and remember with gratitude always.

To her family . I was blessed to work with DOLORES at Yucca Elementary School. I was so blessed to know her and have her as a friend. I had the opportunity to witness a beautiful soul who had a passion and heart like mother Teresa for her students. I have never came across anyone in my career to date who genuinely had a ray of sunshine like her. My she receive her Crown of Glory, and may the Lord shine upon her and her family.

Whether it was a challenging work day or personal problems, Dolores was always there for me. 💖 I was constantly amazed by her ability to empathize and be open minded. Unlike most people, she didn't come from a what-would-I-do perspective... expect when it came to teaching. She had such high expectations for her fellow educators, that it was difficult for her to see that not everyone was as awesome as her in that department. 🙂 Obviously I knew that Dolores couldn't live forever, but that does not minimize the sense of loss. We should all hope to face the end of a life confidently knowing that we had a positive impact on so many people. My son was not fabulous at names when he was a little guy, so he would refer to my Yucca friends by such characteristics as "the one with all the animals" or "the one with the pool." Dolores was "the one who talks to me like I'm a person, and not just a kid." That, I think, says it all. When you had a conversation with Dolores, she was really present... she saw you. What a rare gift. I guess that explains the hole in my heart.

Dear Auntie, many of my best childhood memories are spending time in your backyard for all the family parties. You were one of the most important people in my moms life and you taught her how to cook and take care of us. I know the meaning of a strong extended family because of you.

My great grandma was the most kindest sweetest and caring person in the world. She use to tutor me when I was younger and would always make me fish sticks. I enjoyed going over to her house to see her and great grandpa, but when they move away I didn’t get to see them as often. I will cherish every moment I had with her. I always looked forward in seeing my great grandparents. I love and miss you great grandma.

Mommy, you were the gentlest soul and filled with love and caring. Thank you for your unending love, support and wisdom. I don't know how I will go on without having you to talk to. You were always there for me, when I was scared, upset or angry and you never judged, just listened with love and understanding. I'm everything I am because you loved me, Mommy.

I miss you, Mom D. I will miss watching you love & masterfully manage such an enormous family, maybe the only person always aware of every loved one's situation, needs and triumphs. I will miss your laughter, seeing you for birthday and holiday celebrations and sharing more joyous occasions than I can list—but I will list our common love for the In-N-Out chocolate shakes we enjoyed! You've had such a huge impact on so many people. Thank you for all that you've taught us and for ALWAYS making me feel welcome in the family. You helped me prove how good I am at choosing a mother-in-law. Get the sweet rest you've more than earned.
